The music department at Castlebrae provides all learners with fun and engaging lessons learning to develop key skills in performing, composing and understanding music.
Performing
Performing opportunities include Drum Kit, Keyboard, Tuned percussion, Guitar and Voice. All pupils are encouraged to specialise in 2 instruments from S1. Pupils are provided with numerous opportunities to perform at school events including assemblies, prize giving and Christmas concert as well as events within the community.
The department is supported by the instrumental music service and are pleased to offer free lessons to students
Monday – Drum Kit
Wednesday – Voice, Guitar & Keyboard
Friday – Brass, Woodwind and Guitar
The department is open at break and lunch for pupils to develop their performing skills further
Understanding Music
A wide range of musical styles are explored developing 3 key skills
- Identifying concepts and styles of music
- Identifying signs, symbols and terms
- Express & Evaluate own and others performances
Composing
A variety of opportunities are provided to create original music in a variety of styles
National Qualifications are offered from National 3 to Advanced Higher as well as individual performing units at all levels. All NQ pupils are offered lessons on at least once instrument
Music Technology
We are pleased to offer music technology units through our successful partnership with Edinburgh College. Each week a tutor from Ed College supports our S3 and Senior pupils
